Triathlon

Today was our annual Amy Hutton Triathlon. Mrs. Paulen announced that we made over $3000! That is way past our goal! How awesome!

Thank you to all the families who got donations and made this a successful event. Amy was a previous elementary Forest View teacher. This is a great way to honor someone our school loved. We also were able to raise a lot of money for graduating seniors from Forest View. Kids had a great time this week with the dress up days and the three different activities. First station was Reading, second was STEM and third was physical activity! The KABOOM assembly was really fun too!

We had a great week of learning! Literacy brought us learning about Thomas Jefferson and George Washington. We are working on clay symbols of the United States and writing about them for our Museum.

In math, we finished up our unit on graphs and collecting data. We are reviewing and continue to work on addition and subtraction using story problems.

I challenged the students to ask their parents to give them a story problem.

1- first they have to decide whether it is addition or subtraction

2-what clues tell them that?

3-Solve

4- write an equation or tell the equation

In phonics we continue to read, read, read! Another skill we have focused on includes punctuation and being sure to use it when writing and reading.!?!?. This week we were introduced to the "ee" sound like in the word bee. We also learned tricky words she, be, we, me and he.

We have a few assessments to finish up to get ready for report cards and Tuesday is our DIBELS assessment day.

*******Be sure to go to bed on time Monday night so students are well rested for the end of the year test.*********

BIG NEWS! Mrs. O is going to London!

I sent a note home on Thursday, but in cas you missed it- I was given a great opportunity to teach globally in London, England. I will be spending time in a Kindergarten classroom and partner teaching there for 10 days. This is an amazing opportunity to grow professionally and I am very excited to see what a Kindergarten classroom is like in another country. (Kindergarten is known as Reception there) I will be gone June 7th-13th and Mr. Anderson will be taking over the classroom while I am gone. I am sad to miss the end of the year...it was such a fantastic year, but am looking forward to this opportunity! Mrs. Paulen and I are planning a time to video chat back with the class and I am hoping to build a relationship with the teacher for further class opportunities.

If you have any questions regarding the end of this year or the beginning of first grade, please let me know! I am finishing up report cards and final end of the year plans.

End of the Year T-shirts

I like to make shirts with our class to have everyone autograph. We wear these shirts to Center Lake. It helps the adults see the kids in our class easily. To make these shirts, I am asking for $2 for me to buy a shirt for your student or you can send in a white t-shirt for them.

Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!
