Literacy & Science

This week we continued our discussion about taking care of the Earth. Students learned a lot about pollution. Students heard stories about land, water and air pollution and possible solutions for pollution. It is important that students understand it is their "responsibility" as humans on earth to do their part in helping with pollution. We did a few experiments this week to demonstrate water pollution and air pollution.

Math

In our new unit, we will work a lot on spiraling through previous skills taught. In the number sense routines we will work on counting by 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s. We will also work on writing numbers, shapes, combos to 10, and recognizing and building numbers to 100. In the fluency section of the lesson, students will continue to build up their addition and subtraction skills. Students will also practice with mixed addition and subtraction. They will have to pay close attention to the signs used in order to know how to solve the equation. This unit also teaches about an important life-skill- graphing. Instead of the students creating elaborate graphs, they will actually spend most of their time analyzing the data that is explained in the graph. We will introduce vocabulary like: sort, category, data, analyze, and more.

Phonics

Students are working hard at learning their Candy Words. We are learning quit a few new tricky words from their home/school folder and applying the new words to reading during phonics time. We are also working on writing our uppercase letters the right way and matching with the correct lowercase letters.

Here are our first students to complete all the Candy Lists! They earned a candy bar today! Congratulations!

Help Needed for Center Lake:

On Monday, June 10th Forest View will be heading to Center Lake for our Annual Field Trip. I am looking for volunteers who would be willing to ride the bus or meet our class there and spend the day with us. Let me know if you would like to do this!

Amy Hutton Triathlon:

Today each student at F.V. is bringing home our traditional fundraising explanation. This year we are doing a Triathlon! Amy was a former teacher who had a positive impact on many Forest View students. The proceeds will help fund the Amy Hutton Scholarship for former F.V. students and books to build classroom libraries. This will take the place of the Color Run we have done in the past.

Congratulations to Hans on being our STAR Student this week! Hans is a fantastic student with great enthusiasm! He is always excited to learn something new and share his knowledge with us!

I'd like to wish all our Mom's a Happy Mother's Day this weekend! We enjoyed thinking about you the past few weeks as we prepared something special for you. I hope you enjoy your gifts and don't forget to have them sing you the song! Good luck to The Landing Dancer's this weekend on their performances!
