Another Great Week!
We've had a great week!
Our Science station has turned into a Leprechaun Trap making station. The students are beyond excited. With March right around the corner, we are on the look out for those pesky Leprechauns.
Math:
We are working on learning about higher numbers- numbers to 100. We continue to practice counting to 100 by 1's and adding more members into our club.
This week we talked about counting by 2's and by 10's as a quicker way to count a lot of objects.
Phonics:
Students are continuing to read, read, read. Sounding out is a great strategy, but as they become more comfortable with easier words, they will just read them. This week we put all our practice of sounding words out to the test and started writing phrases. This week we also learned the sight word "little".
Book Bags: Many parents have expressed how their child is really wanting to read, but they are having trouble finding good books for them to practice. I would love to make home book bags if you are interested. The bags will have books at their level, with maybe a few sight words they don't know yet- tricky words they can't sound out. All you would have to do is send the bag back when you are ready for new books and I will refill them for you. Let me know if you are interested.
Literacy:
We have spent this week listening to Nursery Rhymes and Fairytales that pair with our Kings and Queens Unit. Our focus was on the author, the year it was written, and what country it was written in. Students talked about the setting, the character, and the plot (or the problem) in the story. These are words you can use at home when talking about a story you have read.
Parent/Teacher Conferences:
I do not have enough slots to meet with every family, so only some will receive an invite. Although I will be touching base with some of you on the phone. I do have a lot to brag about with your students! They are doing fantastic!
Game Night:
Forest View hopes you will join us Family Game Night! Every child will leave with a game and there is even child care available for smaller children, so you can enjoy your time with your student! Send in slips and RSVP right away. There is a pizza dinner as well.
Congratulations to our STAR Student this week- Jerry!
He has been working so hard! Way to go Jerry!
If you are headed to the Princess Ball, or sending someone off to it, I hope it is the Best Time! Have a wonderful weekend.
Tiffany
