Our Royal Classroom
Tuesday your child brought home their report card from me and a progress report from Mr. Mowbray the PE teacher. The report card highlighted their behavior in school as well as the skills we are working on. I also included our latest journal and rubric about what we are working on. There is a note about Raz-Kids- an online reading program that we have started during our station time. It is a great way for students to get access to books at their level. All you need to do is sign up and use their id and password to get access. Here is a link:
Literacy: We started our unit on Kings and Queens this week. Each day we pick a King and Queen for the day. These royals are able to sit in special thrones, wear royal crowns, and the students address them as "Your highness".
We learned about how there are not many Kings and Queens anymore in the world, but in the past, there were a lot. We learned about the kingdom, arranged marriages, how the royal family lives, advantages and disadvantages of being in a royal family, and compared their life to our own families lives today.
Math: This week we talked about 3-D shapes some more and added in our flat shapes (Square, circle, rectangle and hexagon) We also continue to practice working on our teen numbers. Those numbers 11-19 that include groups of 10 and some more.
Next Thursday is Valentine's Day. We are going to be doing some fun STEM activities with Mrs. Baird's class and possibly watching part of Cinderella- since we are studying some of those fairytales as part of our Kings and Queens unit. If you would like, send in enough Valentine's for 17 students. They do not need to address them, just have your child put their name on the card. We are not accepting any candy. You are welcome to send in little trinkets, stickers, or just the card- but we have an allergy in both classrooms and would like to be safe.
