Native American Wrap Up
Wow! Another short week!
We haven't had a consistent week together since Christmas. Lots of review is happening and part of that includes going over our classroom rules when we start our Morning Meeting together each morning. I wanted to share them with you again, so that you could follow through with them at home. We have little puppets- Tabby and Tom. They take us through social stories each day and help us talk about good choices and respecting each other.
Barn Hill Assembly:
We were introduced to some animals and learned some cool facts! Pictures are coming home today, but any other item ordered will take a few weeks.
Literacy:
We had a great time this week wrapping up our unit of study about Native Americans. We learned about various items, homes, and food from different Native American tribes other than the Lakota Sioux, Lenape, and Wampanoag this week. Mr. Hicock came (Alice's dad) and talked to us about his experience living in Alaska with a tribe. He also taught us some new words and told us a story about how the Raven Stole the Sun. Next week we will begin studying about Kings and Queens.
Math:
This week we started learning about 3-Dimensional ( 3-D) shapes. These shapes are solid and have sides and/or corners. The shapes we are learning about this week include: sphere, cube, cylinder, and cone.
Phonics:
We continue to work on reading phrases, sentences and hearing 4-5 sounds in a word. Thanks for working on those candy words at home, it really helps!
Valentine's Party:
Feb. 14th- Valentine's Party- no food or sweets this day.Try to keep it healthy and be sure to keep our peanut-free allergy safe. Only paper Valentines and fun!
You do not need to address the Valentine's. Just have your child sign their name and we will drop one in each bag. We are making fun bags at school. We currently have 17 students in our class.
Farewell from Mrs. Bender:
Farewell to my Forest View Friends!
I wanted to let you know that next week will be my last week as School Counselor at Forest View. It is bittersweet, as I've accepted a position in another district in order to be closer to home and my own children. I've SO loved being your counselor these past 5 years and will dearly miss my students, their parents, and the terrific staff. A new school counselor will be joining soon and I will certainly stay in contact in order to help that transition go as smoothly as possible. I hope to see you all around out and about in the community!
Take Care,
Mrs. Bender
Have a great weekend!
