Tipi Making

Another Short week this week. I am finishing up testing to get those report cards sent home the first week of February. We have an assembly next week with animals and every child needs a permission slip signed. If you haven't sent in that slip yet, please do by Wednesday.

Literacy: This week we studied about the Wampanoag tribe and the Lenape Tribe. We are comparing the different tribes and where they live in the United States, their clothing, food and shelter they would live in. It has really helped us compare the food, clothing, shelter, and different places that the Native American tribes live. We really enjoyed learning a little about clam digging and clambakes, as that was something the Wampanoag tribe is known for. If you haven't tried some clams, lobster, corn on the cob, or fish at your house with your student, now would be a great time to do it and bring some of school home. The students would LOVE it!

We enjoyed making tipi's this week too!

Next Friday, The Kindergarten is planning a PowWow as we finish our unit. If you have any Native American items you would like to send in to share or clothing your child might like to bring- that would be fun! We are going to make vests and necklaces.

Math: We are finishing up our unit on groups of 10 and teen numbers. We will continue to work with both of these important skills in the next unit as review while learning about 2D and 3D shapes.

Counting to 100!

I am noticing some having trouble counting and getting stuck at those 29,39,49, 59 numbers. This is something you can easily help with- set a goal: if you can count to 50 today without help, you can choose your dessert tonight- or something like that. A little motivation!

Phonics:

We are moving into words with 4 and 5 sounds like (c-l-a-p= clap) Students are also doing lots of reading during literacy time. The stories that we read are decodable.(easy to sound out)

Have a great weekend!
