Spirit Week and Fables
This week was so much fun with Spirit week! I know the students are excited about the parade and the football game tonight!
This week we spent much of our Literacy time reading Fables. Reading Fables to kindergarten students stimulates class discussion of values, ethics, and behavior. This week we listened to some popular Fables: The Lion and the Mouse, The Dog and His Reflection, and The Hare and the Tortoise. All three had a different lesson to be learned. We also focused on some new vocabulary words and putting the fables in order from beginning, middle, and end.
Phonics: we are starting a new skill called blending. Students are given a word with two or three sounds and blend the word like this: ant /a/.../n/..../t/. And because it is kindergarten we are using our bodies to help us with this process.
Writing: We continue to work on left and right. This is so important so that we know how to track and read from left to right on a paper. Students will work with crayons and continue practicing that tripod grip. Students will work with different shapes to help with the stokes and pre-letter making skills.
Math: Our class continues to work with the numbers 1-5. It is important that students really understand that a number is a symbol that stands for 5 dots, or 5 objects, and this is how to make a 5. We continue to read, write and play games with dice, play-dough, and more to get a good understanding of these numbers.
PTO also paid for a magician this week, which was super fun!
This week Conference notes were sent home. Conferences will be Thursday Oct. 11th. If your time slot doesn't work, please call and we can reschedule. I am excited to meet with each of you and brag about your children!
Congratulations to our first STAR student of the week! Caylee is a devote listening, she is kind to others, she shows respect to students and teachers and is always excited about learning. Congratulations Caylee! She was honored at our assembly by Mrs. Paulen!
Have a great Fall weekend! Thanks for a wonderful week! Any questions, please let me know!
