Humpty Dumpty Broke, but our eggs....

Next week is homecoming week! Here are the special days:

Monday, October 2nd - Bring your favorite stuffed animal day

Tuesday, October 3rd - P.J/ Comfy clothes day

Wednesday, October 4th- Sports/College Day

Thursday, October 5th- Hat Day

Friday, October 6th- BLUE and GOLD Day!

A note is coming home today to explain our fun week next week.

Monday we talked about the Constitution and the Pledge of Allegiance.

This week we spent much of our Literacy time on nursery rhymes. Students were engaged in two nursery rhymes a day. Our focus has been on the main character and rhyming words. We really enjoyed our egg drop experiment. Thank you so much for working with your child and sending in some really amazing safety boxes. We had so much fun dropping them and seeing if the egg broke like Humpty Dumpty! A few did, but most made the fall!

Writing: We continue to work on left and right. This is so important so that we know how to track and read from left to right on a paper. Students will work with crayons and continue practicing that tripod grip. (pinching of the crayon and pencil) Students will work with different shapes to help with the stokes and pre-letter making skills. Here you see students using their vertical, horizontal, and diagonal lines. Along with circles that start at the top. This is all in preparation for letter formation.

Math: Our class continues to work with the numbers 1-5. It is important that students really understand that a number is a symbol that stands for 5 dots, or 5 objects, and this is how to make a 5. We continue to read, write and play games with dice, playdough, and more to get a good understanding of these numbers.

Literacy stations- During this time, students will come in small groups and work with me. But the rest of the time students will read to themselves, work on writing, work with tubs of alphabet and word games, and iPad app games. We are working on building our stamina and learning about the rules during this time to minimize the disruption at Mrs. Ouwinga's teacher station. Students are really loving their read to self time. Right now we have worked up to 8 minutes and are working towards a goal of 15 minutes.

Social Studies- Rules. What is the difference between a rule and a law? What are some rules we have at school and home? This was our focus.

Don't forget that next week is Homecoming week. Each day has a fun dress day fo dress up and on Friday, we have a one hour early dismissal. Please come join Forest View across from the skate park in a ballooned off area to get candy and watch the parade! Don't forget to wear your blue STAR shirts to school and the parade next Friday!

Monday is our first late start Monday. Classes start at 10:05 am.

Have a great weekend! Thanks for a wonderful week! Any questions, please let me know!
